Chief Executive Review

Darren Bicknell in a sports hall.

I look back on 2025 with a great sense of pride and reflect on a year that has seen us reach record
numbers of children again, totalling 5,419. We are proud to inspire our children though all our
activities as we know that they:

  • Boost mental health: Physical activity helps reduce anxiety and depression.
  • Improve focus and academic performance: Regular participation in sport has been linked to
    better concentration and classroom behaviour.
  • Build self-esteem: Achieving goals, mastering skills, and receiving encouragement all
    contribute to a child’s confidence.
  • Encourage teamwork and communication: Playing in teams teaches cooperation, empathy,
    and conflict resolution.

Our team of Neil, Max and Michael, have worked tirelessly this year in delivering and developing
our programmes and we are delighted to expand our team with the introduction of Lily our new
apprentice coach.

Vital to us are our supporters, funders and sponsors. We have amazing support at a time when
charity budgets are increasingly stretched so we thank all of our supporters.

The Trust’s dream of developing our new facility continues to move forward. As I write this, we are
around £150k away from finishing our new hub. The development will allow us to work all year round
and provide a fabulous community facility.

Highlights in 2025 included our fundraising dinner with former England and Nottingham Forest legend
Stuart Pearce at the Trent Bridge Cricket Ground. He was brilliant on the night and was an absolute
pleasure to meet and work with. Other highlights included our Duchess of Rutland XI win v MCC
along with our charity golf day at Radcliffe on Trent Golf Club.

Fundraising remains a challenge but with your support the future looks bright for us but also for
our children as they are central to all we do.

Thank you.
